Stay at the Black Crow Lodge
My stay at the Black Crow Lodge was honestly incredible. The photos online are beautiful, but they really don't do justice to how amazing this space feels in person.
I ended up chatting with the property manager and found out it's an authentic German log house, and they actually flew builders in from Germany to assemble it. If you appreciate craftsmanship, the details are wiiild. Even the appliances and cupboards are customized to fit perfectly into the natural curves of the log walls. It's surprising how well the mix of traditional woodwork and the clean, modern design details work together.
There were two of us staying there, so one of us took the downstairs pullout couch. Worth noting, it is hands-down the most comfortable pullout either of us has ever slept on in our lives (usually they’re a nightmare, but this one was amazing). They really thought of every little detail to make you feel taken care of, from a Smart TV with every streaming app imaginable, to super cute, branded vintage umbrellas by the door for rainy day walks. Heatpump/AC unit, plus a large indoor fire place stocked with loads of firewood and kindling. There's a fully equipped kitchen inside, plus a great BBQ right outside the door.
The outdoor space was a huge highlight for us. It is wildly quiet out there, and literally all you can hear are birds. I had my morning coffee (or three) in the private hot tub at sunrise while the fog was rolling over the harbor, and I actually got visited by a few little wild bunnies in the yard. The patio is massive, with a great bench swing and a high-top table where we ate breakfast while looking out at the sailboats in the harbour.
We also walked down the hill to the main dock, which has Adirondack chairs and would be the absolute perfect spot to launch paddleboards (regretted not bringing ours). Location-wise, it’s perfect, less than a 15-minute drive into Lunenburg. We went in to check out some bookstores and restaurants, and you could easily spend a full day exploring all the little shops there.
They are currently building a few more cabins on the property, and we occasionally ran into some of the crew working. Everyone was incredibly friendly, giving us that classic Maritime hospitality. I'm already so excited to come back in the future and see how the property grows. If you're looking for a quiet, high-end getaway, I cannot recommend this place enough.

A perfect mix of comfort and scenery.
Positive: We had a wonderful weekend at this retreat. Even with one day of heavy rain, it was still beautiful, the views were stunning, and sitting in the hot tub under the covered veranda while watching the rain fall over the water was really special. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, with a woodstove that made it feel extra welcoming. It was well equipped, with nice, thoughtful touches that made our stay easy and relaxing. One of the highlights was the live entertainment at the Riverport Inn across the water. Our host told us about it and helped arrange last-minute tickets, which made the evening extra enjoyable. The next day brought sunshine, and the views were even more lovely. It’s a peaceful, scenic spot that’s perfect for a relaxing getaway.
We would happily stay here again!
